The Åre Murders
Hanna, a detective based in Stockholm, is under investigation for possible mishandling of a case, so she heads off to a ski resort to hide out. Since this is a crime series, before long she is back at work with the local police investigating the murder of a teenage girl, followed by another hard to solve murder. The small police detachment is of course happy to have such high-powered assistance, albeit a little wary once they find out why she is there in the first place.
The story line, based on two novels by Viveca Sten, unwinds in a nicely twisty fashion with noirish overtones. The setting, a remote ski resort, was well portrayed and will be familiar to most who live in snowy climes. Oddly, I thought the acting was excellent except for the two leads. In particular, Carla Sehn, who plays Hanna, has a very limited range, which mostly consists of staring.
But in spite of that shortcoming, I can still recommend this five-episode series. Not brilliant, but watchable.
