When a fielder raises his hands to indicate a ball wedged somewhere (e.g. under a fence, deep in the grass, in the padding), the umpire doesn't have to honor that. In this case, that was the right call under the rules. However, the intent of the rule is whether the ball is quickly playable, not conveniently playable. A ball that takes a weird bounce off the wall is not convenient. Therefore, one could argue that ball could have been quickly picked up albeit not conveniently.

On to Game 7!
