Defining the issue at hand:
There are two primary things that divide the Democrats and Republicans.

One, is that the Republicans primary goal is to help the rich by keeping taxes and regulations low and in this effort to subsume social science to right wing dogma.

The second is to lead by right wing dogma which mostly helps the rich, and never helps the poor or middle class e.g. busting unions and the welfare safety net.

While, the Democrats follow modern social and political science when they lead.

Which is why most scientists are liberal Democrats and only 6% are Republicans.

And the Republicans use the primitive thinking, norms and mores, of the established racist culture to lure people into voting for them e.g. "Lee Atwood's Southern strategy"!

And with regard to Trump, as one person said:" It is like being tied to a chair and watching a toddler playing with a loaded gun"!
