Why do some people feel they possess the knowledge to challenge/refute climate science (or an economics Nobel laureate) but not other sciences? How come nobody dares to come here and challenge engineer re wireless tech? Or question Wiles's proof of Fermat's theorem? Just because those have no apparent connection to politics? But how does political leaning confer expertise in complex scientific subjects?

If climate scientists are wrong or Krugman is wrong -- and those are distinct possibilities, which they will admit -- it will not be because of reasons over-confident pedestrians can come up with by reading and regurgitating pat echo-chamber certitudes.

As I said, we are faced with a Dunning-Kruger pandemic. Certainly, in this country.
