I don't want to lie, but if it's a true emergency then yes ambulance seems like the way to go. Many years ago, I had a kidney stone pain. It was awful and I didn't know what it was at the time. Wife called 911, EMT guys came and offered a ride, but just then my pain disappeared. So, I didn't take the ambulance. But then an hour later the pain came back, and it was even worse. Wife drove me to emergency, had to wait for 5 hours before seen by the doctor. Even the doctor felt very bad for me that I had to endure that kind'a pain for so many hours. That's the night I'd never forget. Drink lots of water, people!
