That is a nice Explorer. You elite comment is interesting. And gets into issues of brand perception. Rolex is perceived by many, especially non-watch enthusiasts, as a gold standard and peak of luxury. For me Rolex is mid-range on the luxury scale. Perhaps this is the success of their marketing over the past 30-40 years and strong used resale value? I cannot say anything bad about Rolex as a watch, they make fine and reliable watches. When people say their styling is boring in some ways that's part of their success. The styling doesn't often change much and never radically but everything else has always improved over the years... their movements, the case, the dial, the crystals, the bracelets, etc.
Nevertheless, Rolex makes around 1 million watches per year which I think is similar to Omega (presumably excluding that Swatch moonwatch part, haha). Oh, I'm an Omega fan as well as I believe you are. The brands that are elite imo make anywhere from dozens to 5,000 watches per year. Maybe 10k on a big wild year! :-) |
