There were very few tariffs, and even then most were just 1 or 2%, the result of 80 years of working for free trade, which economists know is best.
Seeing how bad tariffs are, being used like Trump is using them, is really pretty simple and straight forward.
But Trump is a very stupid man, and what he loved most about them was his ability to use them with absolute power, as a cudgel to bully and punish whom he wanted and thinking he could extort the world using America's power.
Such a huge mistake, instead of the world complying, as you know, the world is actively forming new trade partners leaving us out. Especially Canada, and Asia!
I am sure his beef with Canada is one, their unwillingness to do his bidding, and two, because it is a liberal country and he hates liberals, as we have seen.
He has made us a pariah of the world and damaged us just like Putin did with Russia and using the same play book. |
