"has been". You got that right. Since before Feinstein and Granger, old politicians don't know when it's time to retire, unlike most of the rest of us who have the sense to hang it up by the time the eighth decade rolls around. Is the job that cushy or does the power exert that pathological a hold on them? They're supposedly there to represent the people, not to wallow in power and perks.
