I am interested in streaming real time quotes and Level II for trading. I am getting the feeling I need a PC for this.

Ah, okay. Are there proprietary applications that you need to do this, or can you get them over the Internet? If proprietary, you should check to see if they are out for Mac. If the Internet, it shouldn't matter.

For the most part, though, the speed of the processor is not much of a factor in network performance. The most important thing is a fast connection, such as a good T-1. It's a question of where the bottleneck occurs. Amount of RAM and quality of display adapter are also important. I would think that a Mac with a Pentium 166 card would be plenty fast. Just get lots of memory.

The G3s also run Virtual PC pretty quickly, though not as fast as a P166. I've heard that they get something equivalent to a P100.
