The bridge collapse appears to be a function of water-soaked earth surrounding of one of the approaches. It seems to have given way, causing the columns supporting the roadway to eventually collapse.

Chinese citizens face massive ecological risks. Every single Spring and Summer from 2020 to 2025, and perhaps for longer, China has suffered catastrophic flooding. It has getting worse thanks to climate change and unbridled urbanization. Typhoons regularly hit China, with apparent increased rain and wind speed. Don't forget earthquakes.

One never hears about efforts to control these risks. Rather, the CCP invests in and brags about military hardware and infrastructure that does nothing to protect China's citizens, a huge number of which live in substantial poverty.

I pity the average Chinese citizen, if such a thing exists. HIs real estate has been wiped out, his savings plundered, works like a dog to make ends meet, has no social safety net, seems to be subject to severe environmental dangers, but is ruled by an oppressive government that is more interested in poorly planned and constructed superficial displays in an effort to do ....what? Impress fools?. Certainly not improve the lot of its citizens.
