That's too bad. I've always liked the original story - esp as a metaphor for God's relationship with man. Psychologically, it's interesting to me. I didn't like a few of the changes made to the original story- like the syphillitic character, but I did like the more optimistic ending.

End of the day it's an emotional story written by a young woman who was only 18 when she started it- 18 in 1816. In the book, my favorite detail is how Victor "forgets" how he did any of the science to bring the creature to life- thus eliminating any need for some plausible scientific explanations. I always found it a hoot to teach, since it the book is so contrary to people's expectations of Frankenstein.
