Correction: Justice Jackson dissented but did issue the original temporary hold. This extension was by the entire court. No reason given but lawyers assumed that Congress will end shutdown shortly.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson indicated she would have denied the extension and the federal government’s emergency application. She did not explain her dissent.
