Just eyeballing it, BYD sells twice the number of cars, yet surpasses Tesla in net income by only a little, and consistently produces lower margins.
I don't see that BYD is "winning the race" at this point.
"BYD is facing notable financial pressures as of November 2025, primarily driven by China's intensifying EV price wars, regulatory scrutiny, and aggressive expansion that has amplified debt concerns. While the company remains profitable and the global EV leader by volume (with 3.5 million vehicles sold YTD through Q3, up 25% YoY), its growth has slowed, margins are eroding, and hidden debt risks are drawing investor scrutiny. This isn't an existential crisis—BYD's cash reserves ($25 billion) and vertical integration provide a buffer—but it's the toughest stretch since 2020, with Q3 marking the second straight quarterly profit decline."
Tesla is a far stronger entity at this point. If you had to choose. |
