There are probably all kinds of tax arcana that never came up in my life that sports team owners use every day. For all I know a pitcher depreciates faster than a right fielder. And either might offset some non-sports asset. Being known as a team owner boosts one's profile and serves as free advertising. But, I think the real payoff is when a greater fool buys your team.
