I have just come in on this discussion. I will say that this depends on how you are going to approach the market. Are you attempting to be a short term trader or a longer term investor? What is your tolerance to risk and market volatility? What instrument are you going to use to make your money? This can be mutual funds or the stock itself for example. If you do not know the approach you will take and the instrument you will use, you are going to have to make some basic choices before deciding on the specifics. Do not pass up the consideration of a good mutual fund. And speculation may not provide you with the learnings experience that you can benefit from at this point in time.
