Ok, I did a screenshot below. When you see every one of the dots fall below the -40% line on the left side or the beige shaded area where it states: no coupon, not called, and the note matures at the 5 year mark under the 40% line beige area, that is when you receive no coupons and loss of 40% of your principle.
But it doesn't happen all at once because they write them every week. Go to the Calamos site and click on the highest dot on the graph it is a note that was structured on 4/4/25 during the height of the tariff tantrum. You will see that it is currently 58.37% away from the barrier, now compare that to the lowest plotted note dated 12/6/2024 which is 37.5% away from the barrier. What I'm trying to get at is these are all individual notes wrapped into one fund, unlike what is offered to advisors that buy individual notes, which is what I believe you are confusing this fund for.
