Who's won what?
The Athletic | Awards week concludes tonight. Here’s who won so far: Rookies of the Year: Nick Kurtz, Athletics (AL) / Drake Baldwin, Braves (NL): It was a unanimous win for the 22-year-old Kurtz, who hit .290/.383/.613 (1.002 OPS) with 36 home runs, which also earned him a Silver Slugger award at first base. The NL vote was tighter, with Baldwin edging out Cubs LHP Cade Horton, 183 points to 139. The 24-year-old hit .274/.341/.469 (.810 OPS) with 19 home runs.
Managers of the Year: Stephen Vogt, Guardians (AL), Pat Murphy, Brewers (NL): Since this award originated in 1983, only two managers ever won it in back-to-back years: Kevin Cash (Rays, 2020-2021) and Bobby Cox (Braves, 2004-2005). That number has now doubled — both Vogt and Murphy are back-to-back winners (and Vogt became the first to do it in his first two years of managing).
Cy Young awards: Tarik Skubal, Tigers (AL), Paul Skenes, Pirates (NL): Speaking of repeats, Skubal became the first back-to-back Cy Young winner since Pedro Martinez in 1999-2000. Despite winning five fewer games in 2025 than 2024 (13, down from 18), Skubal actually improved on his previous season in nearly every other stat. Skenes’ win was unanimous; in addition to managing a .500 record (10-10) on that Pirates team — that alone should earn votes — he had a 1.97 ERA and struck out 218 hitters in 187 2/3 innings. By the way, the Pirates insist they’re not trading Skenes, and he denied a report that said he wanted to be traded to the Yankees. Stand down.
The AL and NL MVP will be announced tonight. In the AL, it will be interesting to see if Cal Raleigh can edge out Aaron Judge, and in the NL, it’s likely to be a DH: Shohei Ohtani or Kyle Schwarber.
