Hi Bob,
I picked up 300 shares of VZ @ $38.86 and would be easy to flip for a quick profit but like you say I would lose that 7% it remains to be seen what the new CEO can accomplish. This holding needs a little more watching than T which is why the market is asking for the higher yield.
As for T my wife has a measly 25 shares left from what her father gifted her when he worked there.
Winter is starting and as you say interest rates are due to fall. You can get a 6% YOC for OKE and I could see the price go up and the yield fall to 5% by spring.

I think its pretty obvious it's being telegraphed that no one can miss it as for the case of short term rates going lower. The newest member of the Fed board has already said he's going to vote for a 1/2 point cut in Dec.
Another one is retiring and the chairman's term expires early 2026 and they will be replaced with more yes men to cut rates. The part that isn't so obvious is what happens to inflation and longer term rates like the 3 & 5 yr treasuries. As for inflation I wouldn't be surprised if people behind the curtain push for higher unemployment to try to offset the inflation. People who are not working are not buying as much.
