Republican Representative Thomas Massie said President Donald Trump and his top administration officials are saying privately that they are opposed to releasing the Jeffrey Epstein investigation files to spare the president's friends from embarrassment.

Massie, a Kentucky Republican, defied Trump and the Republican leadership with his discharge petition to bring a House bill that forces a vote on releasing the full Epstein files. The vote is slated to take place next week. Trump has called the Epstein issue a Democratic-driven "hoax" and denied any wrongdoing involving the late sex offender Epstein, his former friend.
