Screwworms haven't impacted domestic beef supplies in the US as of yet, but the potential is there. The resurgence of them has little to do with illegal immigrants. His claim of illegals with cattle drives across the border, or at least the implications of that, is pretty fanciful. Now the re-introduction of them into Central America might have had a few elements of that, the biggest reason was the de-prioritization of sterile screw fly program that eradicated the nasty critters to south of Panama. The lax approach to cattle inspections was a big contributor, also. That it didn't raise alarms as it swept up through Central America and Mexico in just a few years without raising alarms until it was at our border was criminal.

I hate the things with a burning passion. One of our cats died from them when I was a kid.
