Taking over Venezuela's oil and pumping as much oil as possible to drive down the price of oil for the
Russians to sew instability has long been articulated. The problem with that view is that the breakeven price
for Venezuelan oil is likely to rise substantially in order to finance both the oil exploration and the
reconstruction of the economy while rebuilding foreign reserves. The same rationale was made for invading
Iraq and the breakeven cost of extracting their oil is now substantially higher than Russia's. The US oil
companies are unlikely to shoot themselves in the foot by undercutting their own investments in the US.
