TopGolf aspired to be equal parts sports and entertainment, betting that folks would pay a premium for the latter. They at first did, but, in retrospect, because of the novelty. Calloway saw this as a way to get their golf-centric brand in front of a non-golf audience, so bet big.
The problem is, Calloway over saturated markets, which killed the novelty... as well as completely over estimated the demand once the novelty wore off. In the end, as you experienced, it became just an overpriced golf range. For sure, absent the entertainment value, simulators suffice.
That being said, simulators are now all the rage at sports bars! So, technically, TopGolf had the right idea, but way too expensive an implementation!
