Mucolytics
  • N-acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) – prescription, very effective
Is NAC back to being a prescription? I have a couple bottles here and just noticed an upper respiratory rattling sound a couple hours ago.

edit: just noticed it's a mist, not oral, and it's a formulated compound - per Grok.

I haven't had anything like that in many years. Very interesting that Chartgod just made a post about this topic.

  • Bronchodilators (albuterol, salbutamol) – open airways so mucus can move out more easily.

I have that on hand because doctor found I'm developing symptoms of asthma.

Interesting info about the breathing techniques. When I was traveling across the US back in the '70s I came down with a UTI. At the hospital I was in a shared room with 3 other guys. The nurse ordered us to cough as a regular thing to fend off pneumonia. He would come in every so often and say, "I don't hear coughing in here gentlemen. Now let's get at it shall we?"
