Gemini is much better than it was before. They have done a lot of work to improve its personality while OpenAI has reduced the personability and personal touches that ChatGPT puts in. So the two are more or less converging. But at core issues that matter to me, Gemini is still well behind. Here's an example: Yesterday I asked both which patent lawyer would make the best patent examiner. I was after a name. Gemini first gave me a long philosophical treatise on the qualities that make a great patent examiner. After I edited the prompt to clarify I am looking for name of a person not a list of qualities, it still gave me the long list, then said some guy (I forgot his name) that was born in 1909 and has now been dead for decades, makes a great patent examiner even though he had no formal training. The same question given to ChatGPT resulted in: "David Boundy, he carries the entire MPEP in his head and knows PTAB procedures inside and out". It is very difficult to change the core personality of an AI after it is developed. Almost as hard as changing a person's personality and values.
