They Built a Robot in Secret, Entered the Pyramid, and Revealed Photos No One Had Seen
In 2010, a small team of independent Russian researchers carried out a covert robotic mission inside the Great Pyramid—one that was never authorized, never publicized, and almost never discussed. Their probe, called Yersh-1, was designed to slip into the narrow upper section of the well shaft, a space too tight and hazardous for any human to enter. With a side-mounted camera, elastic stabilizing whiskers, and a spring-propelled cable system, it photographed every wall as it descended toward the mysterious grotto. The images revealed crude, irregular masonry, packed sand, discarded tickets, and a rare glimpse into a cavity whose purpose remains unknown. It remains one of the most obscure yet important explorations ever attempted inside Khufu’s pyramid
