I was having an after dinner conversation this evening with an engineer friend who is working for a well known Y2K company. He is a critical part of the team that is working overtime to remediate as much IT code as possible for the client, a well known manufacturer, before Y2K. They know they can't complete all the work by this time.

The manufacturer's executive in charge of the whole Y2K project has just today determined that there is an embedded problem at the factory floor level, a rather big one at that. Relating the story of the disbelief, and then the panic, within this client company, my friend just sat there shaking his head. How was this embedded problem revealed? My friend didn't know. However, this is real. And the Y2K company he works for does not do factory floor level work. My friend, however, knows who does. <BG>

Best,
Charliss
