Working from memory here, but IIRC, medallion's big business was financing things like taxi cab medallions, which cratered in value with the advent of ride hailing companies.

I think they diversified into other businesses, but (with no research, just my recollection), I wouldn't think of them as "solid", but they might be OK? I would suspect it would require a lot of diligence before investing.
