The section on network switches is very interesting, because AWS is basically building Trainium3 racks to use 3 different switch deigns over its lifetime! What is interesting is the article doesn't talk about NVLink which is of course Trainium4 and on. But its pretty clear that AWS is rather agnostic on which particular switch they use. I do wonder if they will use multiple switch designs in Trainium4 too. More of the circular economy too! If AWS meets its purchase-volume commitments for ALAB’s PCIe switches and retimers, it receives stock warrants in ALAB stock tied to those product purchases. The stock warrants vest as AWS hits the purchasing milestones, and because the strike price is only $20.34, any market price above that level creates immediate value for AWS. This structure effectively gives AWS an equity-based “rebate” on its component purchases. In the scenario below, the stock warrants vested as of Sep 25 translate into an effective discount of roughly 23 percent.
