the attack of the datacenter is also a real thing. listening to NPR this am, they were saying that they are building datcenters in areas that have very low requirements for zoning. some of these centers are 100's of acres in size. consume all the regional electricy, drain all spare water ( in Las Vegas), and just compute LLMs or mine bitcoin.

If there was a more reliabile area for water access and rights, they would build the fabs in more remote areas also. The difference is data centers are fairly low tech and low labor, while fabs are alot higher tech and thus require an entire different set of skilled labor and the higher tech guys won't travel or live in an area with no population.
