I do not know the details. I don't read much of these stories. But it is not all black and white. I heard of some rich Indians get the baby delivered in USA just for the citizenship. I guess many others do.

Why do rich Indians need US citizenship when the can live lavishly there? I don't know

For every good intended law there is a scamster.

Many Indian's do not surrender their Indian passports after getting US citizenship. They milk both countries.

AI Overview

Wealthy Indians have historically used the U.S. for childbirth, often for
birthright citizenship (a pathway to U.S. citizenship for the child), through methods like birth tourism, or via surrogacy, though the latter has seen legal shifts in India and rising costs/complexity; while some high-profile cases involve in-country births for U.S. citizens (like the car delivery story), the general trend involves Indian nationals seeking U.S. birth for citizenship benefits, sometimes using surrogacy services or traveling to give birth, despite significant costs and potential policy changes affecting this practice.
