"The textbook model of the capital market is that it is used to raise capital for investment projects. That’s no longer true. Today, the whole nature of the financial system is refinancing previous debts. 70 to 80% of all transactions are basically debt refinancing in some form."

I thought this was a very good read about the threads subjects and that these statements, about halfway through, from Dr. Howell matched my thinking.
