I acquired my Chevron (CVX) shares when they acquired Texaco many years ago, and I have never added to or sold those shares. I truly appreciate the tax efficiency of the qualified dividend they provide.

Thank you for the compliment on the long-term buy-and-hold strategy! To answer your question: Yes, the accumulated dividends received from CVX have absolutely exceeded the cost basis. That milestone has been passed, and it is indeed a fantastic feeling to have crossed that line into pure "free cash flow" territory. It really proves the power of compounding and long-term holding!

Even the qualified dividend from AMNF (which I have only held for 15 years) is quite nice.

For what it's worth, I have recently been swapping out several of my REITs for qualified dividend payers. It is proving to be much more tax-efficient. I hadn't paid close attention to this fact before, but as I plan for the 2025 tax year, I realized that even after aggressive tax-loss harvesting, I was paying too much tax on that dividend income.

I suppose that's a good problem to have!

My other best financial move was purchasing property in South Lake Tahoe, NV, 13 years ago. Since I can spend six months and one day there, I pay no State income tax.

I hope you are enjoying your holiday season.

I also enjoyed your story about your work in Alaska. I never knew you worked up there! I had the opportunity to visit Homer, Kodiak, and Valdez as a youngster. Alaska is a beautiful place to visit, but I know it can be challenging during the long winter nights.
