i think you come at this from a wierd angle.

the dollar value is everything with Tim Cook. what his plan is, is to make their own part and end any dependence on qualcomm and then make phones and refuse to pay royaties. he got slapped dwon before, but I guarantee you he is not through trying to force the issue. surprised it has not come up again yet. speaks volumes about the working state of their c1,c2 chips.

IF he were to get his own chip AND he was sucessful at cutting the royalty, he would get back his $100B over a 3-4 year period. so he doesn't mind throwing money at it, but wihtout the technical understanding it might be being thrown in the completly wrong direction.

as for integrating their device, it is not possible for them to buy the modem from Q and integrate it into their design at teh same time. either apple has to hire Q to make the main processor or Q has to give the modem design over to apple. Neither of those are ever going to happen, so the only route is to have an external chipset. Now if they were clever they could put it all into one package and say it was integrated.

i agree with you it is all about control, but Cook has no idea about how the technology works, all he cares about is the cost. he has really defeated himself in this effort. And more staff is lining up to follow soruji out the door.
