Rant of the Day...
On Monday I ordered a very nice video mixer to use for my upcoming track livestreaming season. I had it shipped via Fed Ex with a scheduled delivery (from NY) by "the end of the day" yesterday. Come 10pm, apparently the latest they deliver, no dice. For whatever reason, the store (B&H Photo) designated it as requiring a signature, and I was out most of the day, so no worries.
Fed Ex has a real-time map tracking feature if you create a real account (i.e. have your credit card on file), so, OK, why not. My delivery window for today was until 2:40pm. I could actually see my drive, John, coming closer and closer. When he got about a block away it was 2:40pm and the map just disappeared. No worries, I figured "any second now." A half hour later, nothing. I did some research on how to get the map back and found out when the driver ends his route the map goes poof, which likely happened at 2:40 when beelined it back to the warehouse. @#%#!
I decide to call Fed Ex for clarification. I get their automated system. After a long message about how bad weather around the country is delaying deliveries, "she" asks for my tracking#. I give it. She repeats it. I confirm. She tells me there is no such tracking#, sorry, goodbye. I call back. Same long sequence. She result. WTF?
I call back, this time when asked to describe my problem, I don't say lost package. I say "Fed Ex driver just got murdered in front of my house" I'm actually serious. She says, "OK, there's an issue with your Fed Ex delivery, right?" I say "yes". She says, "OK, is there a good time when we can call you back?" I'm like FU and hang up. I call back again. This time, I tone it down a bit: "Fed Ex driver hit by lightning." Same question. This time I do consent to a call back.
An hour later I get a call back. A real woman with an Indian accent confirms the driver's route had ended. But, he's now back on the road. As I'm talking to her, I actually see a Fed Ex truck literally at the first house on the street that intersects my street. As I'm actually in my driveway at that moment, I ask her if that's the truck with my package. She says yes. I'm like, great, I'll run across the street now and get it. She says, no, please don't do that. Just wait. OK, I wait. Then I see the truck exit the driveway it was in and go in the opposite direction. I quickly say bye to the agent and start to chase after it anyhow. It goes around the corner. I figure if it is going in a loop, I'll go in the opposite direction and intercept it. Nope. Never saw it.
OK, so maybe the guy was going to double back. Nope. I wait. Nope. I keep checking the app for a map, or a status change. No delivery map. Maybe he's just doing the "signature required" folks separately I tell myself. Apparently not. At about 9pm, the scheduled delivery date changed to "Will be updated soon." WTF? Unreal.
