FIDELITY PERFORMANCE MARKET CHANGE EXPLANATION

I sent a personal message to garygr yesterday but wanted others to have a chance to read the information if still interested.

I downloaded the spreadsheets from the old and new views again and spent a couple of minutes adding some columns in the Excel spreadsheets to total and calculate the differences between the columns of data.

The old view INCLUDES the amount of accrued interest or dividends (ex-date in one period of performance and paid in another) in the column labeled Market Change Minus Fees. The new experience does NOT include this in Market Change.

Therefore, the new experience should provide a more accurate reflection of the exact amount of the Market Change that occurred in any given period as it is not including the accrued interest or dividends of any securities that went ex-dividend in the period of performance but aren't actually paid and received until the next period.

NOTE: The Ending Balance in both new and old views INCLUDES the accrued interest or dividend amounts. The new experience just doesn't include that amount in Market Change like the old view did.

If you click on the little 'i' next to the Ending Balance in the new experience, it will show you what the actual ending balance is along with the amount of accrued interest and dividends included therein.

Coca Cola, for example went ex-dividend on 9/15 but it's pay date was 10/1. Therefore, the dividend amount would have shown in the Ending Balance for Q3 as an accrued dividend but only included in the dividend column for Q4 after it was actually paid and received.
