It was the same in the Soviet Union, apparently. Austerity for the proles. For the party apparatchiks, not so much.
We're seeing it in RuZZia as well. Austerity for the commoners, superyachts for the oligarchs.

And the population accepts it because the entire nation has lost its soul. 50% of RuZZians are depoliticized because getting involved in politics is completely and utterly hopeless. Instead, they are resigned to entrusting PooTin and his inner circle of "yes men" to handle all of that political sausage-making, while they themselves are just busy trying to survive and live a "normal" life.

MAGA is following in the same self-destructive footsteps. Their own souls are getting hollowed out, and the only thing that remains is a facade, a human shell. Trump is the only agency with any legitimacy in their eyes, because they have nothing else.
