Wall Street slides to session lows as AI trade takes a hammering

Wall Street's major averages slumped to session lows on Friday as the artificial intelligence trade came under intense pressure.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite ( COMP:IND) was the biggest decliner, -1.74% at 23,182.85 points. The benchmark S&P 500 ( SP500) slid -1.14% to 6,822.56 points. The blue-chip Dow ( DJI) fell -0.45% to 48,484.92 points.

Sentiment around AI took a beating after Broadcom ( AVGO) warned of margin pressures and disappointed investors with a lesser-than-expected backlog figure for AI product orders. The mood was further soured after Bloomberg News reported that some Oracle ( ORCL) data centers for OpenAI had been delayed to 2028 from 2027.
