Yes, he got kicked out of Paypal. Because he had zero management skills and was a danger to the company. Unfortunately, that happens a lot in tech. Just look at Alan Shugart, inventor of the 8 inch floppy. Left IBM, formed Shugart Associates, which pioneered the 5 1/4 inch floppy, got booted from that and formed Seagate Technologies, which pioneered the 5 1/4 inch hard drive, and got booted from there.

It takes a different skill set to run a company beyond a certain size.
