Racoons can be immensely destructive. A couple of them got into a friend’s cottage (more like a house) years ago. Likely through the chimney. With no way out they just went crazy. They destroyed every piece of furniture inside the cottage within an hour or so until the security service arrived and opened front and backdoors providing them with escape routes.

That said, we also got to meet a pet raccoon which was the most loveable creature you could ever find. He joined us on our woodsy dog walks, teased the dogs and then retreated to a tree nattering at our dogs.
