3COM Weather Report: Salt Lake lake-enhanced snow Snow streaming off the Great Salt Lake buried Salt Lake City in deep snow Wednesday with amounts ranging from 17 inches at the airport to more than two feet in the eastern parts of the city. In the mountains to the east of the city, Park City reported 32 inches. Looks like Derek had to use his fish-finder to locate his truck. An all-out blizzard is raging in portions of North and South Dakota. Winds have gusted as high as 73 mph in Rapid City, South Dakota overnight. Many roads are impassable across western North Dakota, western South Dakota, eastern Montana and northeastern Wyoming due to the blizzard. Some locations have received over 2 feet of accumulation, but snowfall has been very hard to measure since the wind is blowing it away as quickly as it falls. As a result, snowplows cannot keep up with the falling and drifting snow. Travel is not recommended. Visibilities have been near zero at times and it would be very hard to see any snow drifts until almost upon them. Conditions are not expected to improve over the next 24-48 hours, so pick up a good book and snuggle up with someone special. The blizzard conditions may move into the eastern portions of the Dakotas and western Minnesota Friday. Looks like Derek will give Famous an early Xmas present.
Farther south thunderstorms have been creating problems in Texas and the Southern Plains. Heavy thunderstorms pounded Louisiana and Arkansas this morning with strong, gusty winds, hail and torrential downpours. Last night the storm brought very heavy rain, gusty winds and hail to Dallas and San Antonio. Dallas picked up over two inches of rain in a little over an hour, turning streets into rivers. The heavy downpours, gusty winds and hail threaten Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama this afternoon and evening. Other heavy rain will pelt parts of the Ohio and Mississippi Valleys today. Looks like David L. gets to try his boat in downtown Houston. The Northeast will continue to improve today with less wind, warmer temperatures and more sunshine. Temperatures should climb into the 40s for Boston, 50s for New York and Philadelphia and the lower 60s for Washington. Conditions will go downhill Friday as some rain and showers move into the area, but temperatures should remain above average. Looks like jhild and Pullin will get their streets washed. California and Florida are getting a much needed and deserved break from their recent storminess. High pressure dominates both areas with pleasant conditions. Temperatures should reach the lower 80s over much of Florida today and Friday, while it reaches the lower to middle 60s in flood-ravaged California. The nice weather in Florida is expected to end Friday as showers and thunderstorms move into the region. At this time it appears that the storms should not be severe. Looks like Scrapps, Moonray, Jeff and MrB abandon the shelters. To those I left out, GET SOME WEATHER ! o~~~ O |
