As a postscript, I bought a Gateway 2000 desktop in January 1996 and since that time (a) the Western Digital hard drive went bust and (b) the Toshiba CD-ROM stopped working. Both were replaced under warrantee. Can you imagine that--they were built so poorly that they didn't even last their warrantee period? I imagine that both WD and Toshiba must be about to go under.

Do you think it's too late to start a class action suit, to punish these companies so that they won't sell more defective products in the future to an unsuspecting public? And maybe someone (no one from this thread-we all seem to have lives)could start news groups and web sites for support for those who have been victimized and as a way to warn others not to become involved with such flash-in-the-pan, no-name products.
