The part I find interesting is that Samsung is pooling several clients' test chip on single wafer (saving on mask costs). I wonder if TSMC also does this.

I once snuck some novel device structures on a device test site while at Watson......had a good in with one of the layout guys....nobody had a clue what they were or who they belonged to.....was 2nd shift mgr. in the Silicon facility down there for two years. (1986 to 1988).....small group tasked to speed up the research by adding 8+ more hours of silicon processing per day...(limited to hot process / CVD / RIE / Lith).............was able to run my lot under the table at night and got some pretty clean working devices...really novel stuff...got my one and only first author paper out of it....also did some good stuff on shallow trench process development with Bijan Davari........some of the RSMs were pissed off because I supported certain RSMs at night selectively moving their stuff thru the line.......being able to get things done had its benefits.......caused quite a stir....but fuck them.......we more than fulfilled our charter considering the size of the group........and did some neat stuff besides......let them be there at 1AM....not fun........so, I would just hang low knowing by about 6pm when they all went home, the place was mine.........turns out neither management or 2nd shift really suited me.........but I fulfilled my 2 year commitment and then returned to East Fishkill...never again gave management a second thought....learned my lesson....the hard way
