That the reality we live with. The West Coast and NE do drag the country down in this way.
California pays much more in federal taxes than it receives in federal benefits.

Texas is also a "donor" state, but much less so. $68B vs. $276B:

Even on a per capita basis, California contributes MUCH more to the American economy than Texas does.
