These were different contexts, and "two trillion" figure was specifically an "in your wildest dreams" sort of answer. He even later clarified it later as such.

The number was never going to be 2 trillion. I heard it at the time and it was apparent to me without giving it any thought that was beyond the realm of possibility, and the followed it up pretty quickly with a clarification. They're allowed to do that.

This is not important. The fact is everything that happened at DOGE was a net positive for the nation, and a 1/4 trillion dollars is more than anyone has ever cut from the waste of our federal budget.

I know this is something you would never understand. But educated business people understand how important cost control is. And when we look at the extent of the federal government waste we are astounded. I was in university when the National Debt crossed the $400 Billion mark. That is when I noticed. It was shocking to me. I asked "Curley" Mason, my economics professor at the time in class at that time, "What hell hell are we going to do about this debt?" He said to me, "Forget it. It means nothing. Just don't worry about it."

Being a reasonably smart student, I knew not to engage him on that topic. But I also knew that was the worst bullshit answer I ever heard. Curly is long sense dead, but the deficit persists and we still have to pay the interest and waste of money does matter, now. When we cannot pay the interest on our debt without borrowing more money.

Do you understand that at all?
