. The problems primarily stem from established industry processes, tools, and the physics of silicon itself.

Manufacturing and Material Problems
  • Difficult Cutting Process: The most significant problem is the cutting (dicing) process. Silicon wafers are cut into individual chips using high-precision saws that make straight-line cuts across the entire circular wafer in two perpendicular directions. This efficient, automated process is designed for creating rectangular shapes. Cutting hexagons would require complex, non-straight paths or rotating the wafer for each cut, which is much slower, less precise, and reduces manufacturing throughput and yield.
