Well, many of them chose Hitler and participated in Holocaust.
Others joined the Red Army, after Hitler reneged on the fantasy they had that Hitler would grant them an independent state, like he gave to Slovakia.
The Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Nazis had the same unfulfilled fantasy.
Subsequently, the US (CIA) airlifted these Nazis, many fighters of Waffen SS divisions, and brought them to America. Most settled in NYC, NY Catskills region and Canada.
Then, for decades, the Nazi ideology was nurtured among the diaspora in the US and Canada with goal of undermining Soviet Union and later Russia.
Newly independent Ukraine in early 90s then came under influence of this ideology, which culminated in US organized 2014 Maidan Coup, overthrowing democratically elected government and installing Ukro Nazi aligned government in Ukraine.
Ukraine, from its origin, was a basket case of corruption, worst in Europe (worse than Russia). Everyone who could fled from that hellhole. By 10s of millions.
That was before the lightning quick mind fuck, which convinced (the lowest hanging fruits), that the same Ukraine regime that gained power in a coup (overthrowing democracy) was in fact a bastion of democracy.
Interesting hypothesis about why Zelensky insists on prolonging the war that's clearly lost. Because once the war is over and young men are no longer prisoners, no longer barred from leaving the country, they will get the hell out of there.
There will be no more children, only stranded retirees, and the end of Ukraine nation.
