| | | Interesting AppleCard scam today.
While out driving around, I received a text message from "applefraudcareaibot@icloud.com"
It said,
_____________________________________________
APPLE FRAUD SERVICES
VERIFY IF YOU ATTEMPTED THIS TRANSACTION.
“Dominos”
“$56.42”
WAS THIS YOU
Y for Yes
N for No
_____________________________________________
I hadn't made that transaction, but suspected the text message was a phishing attempt.
So I checked my Apple Card, and saw that charge was pending.
Thinking then that the text message might be legit, I texted "N".
I immediately got a call from 877-328-3090 which I did not answer, still not fully convinced it wasn't an elaborate scam. I thought if the text was legit, I had already given Goldman Sachs enough info to decline the charge.
My iPhone took the call and screened it. The caller said "Spencer Williams, Apple Goldman Sachs"
When I got home, I called the Goldman Sachs support number, 877-255-5923, and asked them if the text was from them, and they told they don't send texts, and they hadn't called me.
So, someone had my virtual card number and phone number, placed an order with the local Dominos, then texted me to alert me they had done so, then called me, presumably with the intent to get me to give them more info.
I reported the charge as fraudulent, and Goldman Sachs changed my virtual card numbers.
Be careful out there! |
