Haven't listened to Ray McGovern analysis for a few months, so it is a good to get an update on his recent takes.

Maybe the pivot, outlined in the new National Security Strategy might be real. Which outlines "core" interests of the US, as opposed to vanity projects, such as Ukraine. But it is Russia's "core" interest. Trump going back to Obama's policy, that recognized that Ukraine is not US core interest, but it is Russia's.

McGovern used to, and still does, parse all the statements coming out of the US and Kremlin, and thinks that both sides now recognize that normalizing relations is in fact a core interest of both US and Russia, and other matters are a lower priority.

Also, both sides now recognize that EU and NATO are irrelevant, and in fact, EU is in a tailspin, self-destructing.

Funny anecdotes about NATO meeting where Trump "Daddy" showed up but McGovern calls him a deadbeat dad, who will not pay NATO child support, and Marco Rubio, for the first time in NATO history, didn't even bother showing up for NATO meeting.

This was recorded prior to last night EU meeting, but everything is as much if not even more relevant. He is wondering if the next NATO meeting will even take place.
