Clintons' Fight to Avoid Testifying in the House in Epstein inquiry - face contempt proceedings

James Comer (R-KY) on Monday set new January deposition dates for former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, warning that continued refusal to testify in Congress’s Jeffrey Epstein investigation will trigger immediate contempt of Congress proceedings.

In a sharply worded letter sent to the Clintons’ attorney, David Kendall of Williams & Connolly, Comer rejected arguments that the former officials should be excused from appearing and accused their legal team of mischaracterizing the scope of the investigation while obstructing efforts to schedule testimony.

WASHINGTON -- The Republican chair of the House Oversight Committee threatened Friday to begin contempt of Congress proceedings against former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton if they refuse to appear for depositions as part of the committee's investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.

Rep. James Comer, a Kentucky Republican, said in a statement late Friday that the Clintons had “delayed, obstructed, and largely ignored the Committee staff’s efforts to schedule their testimony” for several months and said the committee would begin proceedings to try to force them to testify if they don't appear next week or schedule an appearance in January.
