While only a band-aid deal instead of a solution, it sends an important message to Putin, Trump and the Ukrainian people: “Europe has Ukraine’s back.” or to put it differently: “Forget a Putin / Trump sweetheart deal.” That said, the deal is actually a (hopefully temporary) win for Putin as his EU assets remain frozen BUT untouched while the EU is taking on a mountain of new debt.
